History / Biographical
Fred DeLory was an engineer on the Aluminum Company of Canada Ltd. smeltersite construction project f rom 1952 to 1953. He worked in an office that was located uphill from where the first pot lines were located. He went on to become a professor of civil engineering at the University of Toronto.

Photographs of dredging of the harbour by B.C. bridge + dredging Co. Ltd. Preparing site for smeltersite. In the background are bunkhouses, Hudson Bay Trading Co., homes; on the left (behind dredger) the Delta King.
Fred DeLory worked for Arvida P.Q. and was transferred to Kitimat at the beginning of 1952. He was the first town engineer.

Photographs of graving dock - caissons are built in a huge hole and then floated out to a stationary position and sunk. This is then the base of the wharf. Photo shows construction area with framework, and people working in a pit.
