History / Biographical
From the years 1953-1958, Mike Kinnear took photos during his school years, until graduation, while working for Fred Ryan Ltd. after school and holidays. Photos for him was a hobby, and he took many photos of the smelter and townsite as it grew around him. Mike also took a number of photos for the Kitimat Northern Sentinel, during the Ken Brumley and Pixie Meldrum years as editors. Mike and his family left Kitimat in 1958, but he spent the best part of 40 years in the photographic field, mainly in the retail/wholesale part of the photo industry.

Standing left to right are older son, Bob, Mrs. Muriel Keller, Mr. Art Keller, while seated is daughter Cathie and younger son, Scott. En-route to their new home in Belledune, New Brunswick, they will visit grandparents in Port Arthur where Cathie and Bob will visit for a few weeks, while Mr. & Mrs. Keller and Scott go on to Saint John, N.B. Kitimat residents for the past 12 years, the family came here from Arvida, Mrs. Keller organized the 1st music class in Kitimat and has taught music since that time. She has also been on the teaching staff of Mt. Elizabeth H/S as girls' counsellor, librarian and home economics teacher. Mr. Keller was a Chemist with Alcan. Mr. & Mrs. Keller were actively associated with First United Church during their years in Kitimat.
