Photograph of many busy people putting in hours of last minute detail work for Kitimats Dominion Day program are A.W. (Mae) Handfort and John McLachlan shown above checking public adress installations for the Alcan show the evening of July 1. The days program of events nin this years being sponsored and co-ordinated by Kitimats Kiwanis club, memebers of which has been hard at work over past several months on plans to make it a "red letter" day for everyone in the community. Day starts with a Kiwanis pancake breakfast followed by a car relay, the July 1 parade, sports events and winding up with the shoiw at 8pm.

From the years 1953-1958, Mike Kinnear took photos during his school years, until graduation, while working for Fred Ryan Ltd. after school and holidays. Photos for him was a hobby, and he took many photos of the smelter and townsite as it grew around him. Mike also took a number of photos for the Kitimat Northern Sentinel, during the Ken Brumley and Pixie Meldrum years as editors. Mike and his family left Kitimat in 1958, but he spent the best part of 40 years in the photographic field, mainly in the retail/wholesale part of the photo industry.
