Documentary film consisting of four segments set in different countries (Italy, Haiti, Canada, Norway) exploring the dual themes of humanity's power to build and to destroy. The Canadian section focuses on the development of Kitimat and the Kemano project, particularly the tensions between various immigrant groups in the new town. A soccer match between two teams is shown.
The documentary "Power Among Men" (1959) was produced by the United Nations Film Service and directed by Alexander Hammid, Gian Luigi Polidoro, and V.R. Sarma.
Custodial History
The 2 original reels of "Power Among Men" were donated to the District of Kitimat by the UN in 1959, and from the DoK to the Kitimat Museum and Archves on May 19th 1983. In 2001, the reels were donated to the BC Archives and a VHS copy of the film was received by the Museum in exchange. A digital copy of the film is now held by the Kitimat Museum and the segment on Kitimat is shown to guests as part of the "City of Tomorrow" exhibit.

Miniature aluminum ingot – prior to the tri-lock design – presented to delegates on the Vancouver Board of Trade Goodwill Tour in 1960. The Vancouver Board of Trade also sent a 220-member industrial tour party in 1955 to visit the new towns of Kitimat and Kemano.

Notes
Note on DVD says that it is "Alcan Builds in Kitimat", but comparing to our own footage, the proper title is 'The Kitimat Story'.
From the years 1953-1958, Mike Kinnear took photos during his school years, until graduation, while working for Fred Ryan Ltd. after school and holidays. Photos for him was a hobby, and he took many photos of the smelter and townsite as it grew around him. Mike also took a number of photos for the Kitimat Northern Sentinel, during the Ken Brumley and Pixie Meldrum years as editors. Mike and his family left Kitimat in 1958, but he spent the best part of 40 years in the photographic field, mainly in the retail/wholesale part of the photo industry.

Film of Mike Kinnear's trip to Kemano in January 1955. Black & white. Produced on a 8mm Cine-Kodak Kodachrome safety color film, daylight type.
The Kitimat Chinese Association was founded in 1985. Their purpose was to connect all Chinese Canadians in Kitimat, with the local people too. They encouraged the members involved in the community to show and share Chinese culture with the people in Kitimat. Like activities in Multicultural Day, Canada Day, Canada Cancer Society's Relay of Life, etc. Every year they had three gatherings, summer picnic, Christmas and Chinese New Year. The association disbanded in December 2008 as most of the members got older and retired.
