John McLachlan worked for Property Engineering with Alcan. He arrived in Kitimat in 1953. He was 23 years old and like many newcomers, he was an immigrant seeking a better life from the war torn life he had grown up in. He worked at Alcan's Property Department for almost 40 years. He started out as a land surveyor and cartographer in the town's early years and ended his career as a Senior Legal Draftsmen.
