File contains ten photocopies of cartoons drawn by Martin Fossum, depicting activities over the course of a year at Kitimat's Nechako School in the mid-1950s. One verse of a poem is included on each picture.
Martin Fossum, the son of an RCMP staff sergeant, was a student at the Kitimat School in Nechako Shopping Centre from 1955 to 1959. He submitted these cartoons in place of a Grade 9 English writing assignment for teacher Emile 'Bill' Duyvewaardt.
Custodial History
Original drawings were retained by Duyvewaardt for many years. These photocopies were sent to Arvid Hardin in 2012 and donated by him to the Museum in 2022.

A photograph of Mr. Lloyd Starr & Wife Irene Starr with school class on the event of his retirement. Photo was used in an article about Starr's retirement in the May 22, 1980 Northern Sentinel Press. The photo caption in the paper reads: Lloyd Starr of Kitamaat Village has worked as a janitor in the school house for nursery, kindergarten and grade one students for the past 14 years. he's just retired. In a scrapbook given to Lloyd the children say, "Thank you for being nice to us".

The new Tamitik arena was opened in 1980. It was officially named in May of that year, after a new contest was held by the Advisory Recreation Committee. (See Northern Sentinel, May 8th 1980, pg, 3, "Tamitik centre.")
