Photograph of a group of youths preparing food on a sandy beach. A boy and girl in the centre are preparing something in a jug. Girl has brown hair and is wearing a white coat. Boy has blonde hair and is wearing a white shirt. In front of them is a pot filled with something, a HEINZ box, and other items. Behind them is another person with only their legs visible. On the right is another girl in a white shirt and light purple bottom. Her head is not visible.
From the years 1953-1958, Mike Kinnear took photos during his school years, until graduation, while working for Fred Ryan Ltd. after school and holidays. Photos for him was a hobby, and he took many photos of the smelter and townsite as it grew around him. Mike also took a number of photos for the Kitimat Northern Sentinel, during the Ken Brumley and Pixie Meldrum years as editors. Mike and his family left Kitimat in 1958, but he spent the best part of 40 years in the photographic field, mainly in the retail/wholesale part of the photo industry.

Gribben, BC representatives for Baldwin pianos and organs, met students and friends of music teacher, Mrs. Dwayne Johnson, at the gathering held in the banquet room of the Kitimat Hotel. Student "get togethers" are a regular activity with young people learning to play the organ in other cities in Canada."

This was attributed to the fine summer weather of the past few weeks. The cut flower section, above, gets the once over from some of the many spectators.
