Photo showing `Getting ready for parade'. Everyone loves a parade and especially the people in it. The group of baton twirlers above are going to take part in the Dominion Day parade and a group of them will be performing a spectacular fire baton routine in the Arena in the afternoon. The girls who learn their baton twirling in a YMCA class under instructor Mrs. J.K. Thom are practising about every night. John McLachlan arrived in Kitimat in 1953 as a 23-year-old immigrant and went on to work at Alcan's Property Engineering Department for almost 40 years. He started out as a land surveyor and cartographer in the town's early years and ended his career as a Senior Legal Draftsmen.
