Phillips, in charge of Kitimat Fire Department gardens. Gardens were judged last week and this weekend. Mrs. Mauno Pelto, a non-resident of Kitimat., will join the judges for the elimination round to determine the three best gardens of the year. Results will be announced in The Sentinel, August 19 and prizes will be awarded at the Rotary Flower Show August 21st.

Photo showing Front view of the first prize garden in the 1965 Sentinel garden competition shows the fine, grassed boulevard which is the crowning touch to the property, at 31 Kitlope, home of Mr. & Mrs. Fred W. Pohl and family. Judges this year commented on the number of fine gardens, and those that missed because a boulevard had been left untended or work has been concentrated on either front or back garden but not both. Judges recommened the municipality give a lead in a progressive program of boulevard seeding to improve general appearance of the residential areas.

Pictured above are two of the workmen snaking a log to one of the many assembly points for burning. The campfire park, located near the busy Service Centre area, has 20 odd campsites complete with barbecues and picnic tables; it is the pet project of the Gyro Club. The club recently presented the municipality a cheque for park improvement.
