Photograph of the Vatican City (AP)- funeral masses were celebrated for Pope Pius XII in St. Peter's Basilica and at a chapel near Pontiff's tomb in the grottos of the great church. This picture of the interior of St. Peter's was take in Rome this year by Sentinel photographer Walter Suessmayer. At right is the entrance to the Sistine Chapel where the College of Cardinals during the conclave will elect a new pope. The cardinals cannot leave the conclave area from the time they enter October 25 until a new pop is elected. Workmen in St. Peter's were putting up stands for final weekend funeral services for Pius XII. In Rome Italian President Giovanni Gronchi and other government leaders attend a special funeral mass at Santa Maria Degli Angeli. The cardinals now present in Rome held another meeting to discuss preliminary work for the conclave. Meanwhile the first of foreign delegations to attend final funeral services Sunday began arriving in Rome.
