Photo showing Hans Peterson, 59 Finch Street, Kitimat, B.C., is shown carving the transom for his 34 foot fishboat, the "Mermaid". Launched at Minette Bay on the Douglas Channel in May, 1963, the Mermaid was built by Mr. Petersen in his back yard. It took four years to build and was originally intended as a commercial fishing vessel but altered to serve as a family pleasure boat. At the site is a hotspring which has been used for the past 30 years inside the wooden building which is beyond the new cement block structure. A crew of volunteers under Commodore Aubrey Creed worked through the weekend on the facilities.
