The plans were for a 45 foot boat. The ten foot beam was laid in the upstairs of the house and moved out into the yard during spring.
Photo showing Hans Peterson, 59 Finch Street, Kitimat, B.C., is shown carving the transom for his 34 foot fishboat, the "Mermaid". Launched at Minette Bay on the Douglas Channel in May, 1963, the Mermaid was built by Mr. Petersen in his back yard. It took four years to build and was originally intended as a commercial fishing vessel but altered to serve as a family pleasure boat.
