The Surf Inlet Gold Mine was located on Princess Royal Island above Surf Inlet. Limited production began in 1902 and then ceased in 1905. The mine reopened production in 1917, after major development occurred. It was then operated by the Tonapah Belmont Development Company of Philadelphia. The mine closed in 1926. Three mines were opened in 1934 by Surf Inlet Consolidated Gold Mines, including the Surf Inlet Mine, the Pugsley Mine and the Belmont Mine. These closed permanently in 1943.

Folder containing stack of production statistics/power consumption documents from the Surf Inlet Consolodated Gold Mines Ltd from the years 1940-42.
Rectangular ingot with ALCAN engraved in the front in capital letters. Silver in colour. Corners are rounded.

Many scratches, stains, and other marks across the surface, both front and back. Many small holes in back. Stains in various colours - white, pinkish, brown (possible rust).
A guest book with a handmade wood burned cover commissioned by Heidi Born, both covers are wood with a green felt inside. The front reads "40th ANNIVERSARY Kitimat-Kemano Our 40th Anniversary" Inside there are large stacks of light brown lined paper with names of people and dates of when they joined the smelter.

Pyramid shaped wooden base with inscription 'Alcan Smelters and Chemicals Ltd., Ingot, John Hurst, Editor, Cathie Stevens, Associate Editor, 'Ingot - April 24, 1998."

Cathie Stevens was the Associate Editor of the Ingot in 1998.
The Prince Rupert Daily News is a community oriented newspaper that has been in continuous print for nearly one hundred years. With a proud tradition as the paper of record for Prince Rupert, BC since 1911, the Daily News is still going strong today. The newspaper provides their community and others with the latest information on local news, sports, and cultural activities around the area and important issues concerning Prince Rupert and the North Coast.
Custodial History
Stored at the Prince Rupert Daily News until the collection was transfered, as part of a larger collection, to the Prince Rupert City & Regional Archives. The part of the collection pertaining to Kitimat/Kemano was transfered to the Kitimat Museum & Archives in January of 2010.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of photographs of the Alcan Smelter casting in Kitimat, power operations and residential areas in Kemano.
